Least We Forget

On the 2nd day of our visit to Sandakan, went to see this place called "Sandakan Memorial Park". Well I'm sure those from Sandakan or who have visited this place know what i'm talking about.

It really does touch me especially the Prisoner of War (POW's) suffering. As what written, the Memorial Park commemorates a tragedy and an atrocity which is the death of those POW. The atrocity was the manner of the death inflicted upon them by their captors - starvation, overwork, beatings and punishments and also the forcing of over 1000 sick and weak POWs on three marches under brutal physical conditions.
Can anybody imagine being forced to walk from Sandakan to Ranau? On the three forced marches, approximately 500 prisoners died. At the end, only six (all Australians) survived.-I think maybe, just maybe one of the POWs is our ancestor. Who knows.

This picture can already describe it

Least we forget
